Reception

Introduction

Welcome to Reception Class! This is a very exciting year for children as it is filled with fun, stimulating and engaging learning tailored through children's interests. Please browse this page as you will find out what your child has been learning, as well as lots of useful information and documents to help your child.

Superheroes!

Our theme this Summer half term has been Superheroes.

Our Learning This Spring Half Term

This half term our theme is 'Growing'. Children have delved into this topic with the help of the following fiction books; The Enormous Turnip,The Little Red Hen and Oliver's Vegetables. Our 'Farmshop' role play area is a hit and the children are enjoying using their maths and literacy knowledge in this area.

EXPLORING VEGETABLES

WE HAVE PLANTED OUR OWN BEANS! WATCH THIS SPACE TO SEE HOW TALL THEY GROW!

OUR TRIP TO LIDL

We took a trip to Lidl to help us understand the concept of buying and selling. We made lists for the ingredients needed to make bread and jam. We ticked off the items one by one as we found them. We counted up our items and estimated how much our shopping would come up to! As well as the practical numeracy and literacy we learnt, we also discussed the importance of road safety and the correct places we need to cross in order to stay safe!

COOKING WITH OUR INGREDIENTS

We followed a bread receipe to make our fresh wholemeal bread! We applied our phonics knowledge to read the names of the ingredients and applied our maths skills to measure out the amount we needed. It truly was delicious!

Numeracy in Action!

We can order everyday objects according to weight and test our theories using a balance scale! We can use mathematical language when explaining what we are doing and why.

We used the squares on our carpet to learn our number bonds to 10.

We have learnt a new skill - weaving! This has helped us with our positional language as well as our fine motor skills!

We are starting to show our working out when tackling subtraction problems!

Seed Collecting Homework - (08.03.18)

For homework, please help your child collect seeds from various fruits and vegetables they eat. Help your child to explore and predict what they might find before cutting into and collecting the seeds. Extend their maths knowledge by asking them to count the seeds and add seeds together from 2 or 3 fruits/vegetables. How many more will they they need to make 10 or 20? Help your child to create seed packets for the seeds collected. Can they write labels for them? Encourage children to write independently sounding out and matching sounds to letters. I look forward to seeing their seed packets in our Farmshop! :)
